I often get asked…”Is Childbirth Education necessary?”
YES! Childbirth Education is very important in understanding what is coming next for your body, baby and how you will navigate this experience with a new found confidence. Classes will give you a solid framework for you, and your partner to be well equipped and prepared for your baby’s birth.
So, “Which is the ‘right’ class for me”?
There are many childbirth education options out there and it can feel confusing on where to start. At the end of the day, just like birth, there is no wrong way to do this. Childbirth Ed is the same. The classes will hopefully give you a wide range of education, comfort measures, and self development so you can discover more how you may work with your labor on the day of.
“But is Childbirth Education necessary if I have you?”
As your Doula, I reinforce the information you’ve gathered and begin to apply it. We discuss, interpret, and practice what you’ve learned so when labor begins, you can rely not only on the education itself, but the preparation that we have instilled together. We will also focus on areas that you are seeking more guidance through, and highlight areas that may have been missed, ensuring that no matter where you receive your information you have the whole picture.
All Childbirth Education will have slightly different approaches and areas of focus so I think here are some introspective questions you can ask yourself when deciding what suits your needs:
Do you prefer learning in person or virtually? In a group setting, or one on one? Do you seek the convenience of learning at your own pace or do you like having a date on the calendar?
Is your Childbirth Educator trained, certified, and accredited? Look for (CBE) after the name.
What material is important to you? Do you like just the facts of birth, the heart felt intuitive experiences you may encounter, or a little of both?
Does the class or instructor reflect your birth philosophy while staying inclusive to all possibilities? Or does the class focus one way or another?
Regardless of what you decide, childbirth education is just like birth in that there is no wrong way to do it. Just discover which style feels best for you. My hope is that you will not only be more prepared having the information in the end...but there was transformation and growth within each of you during the classes which taught you more than the material itself, but helped you learn more about yourself. In my opinion, some of the best classes reflect a combination of what we highlight and practice together including evidence-based information, mind-body based practices, deep introspection, story telling, reflection, and un-biased preparation of all outcomes.

Emphasis is placed on pregnancy and childbirth, as well as on pre-birth parenting and the consciousness of the pre-born baby. As a birthing method, Hypnobirthing® is as new as tomorrow and as old as ancient times. It is presented in a series of 5 2 1/2 hour classes.
Hypnobabies® is a very successful 6 week, 3-hours per week, complete childbirth education course that was adapted with permission from Gerald Kein’s “Painless Childbirth Program” techniques rather than using simple relaxation, breathing or guided imagery. This allows our Hypno-Moms to enjoy “eyes-open childbirth hypnosis”, easily remaining deeply in hypnosis while walking, talking and changing positions; being as mobile as they would like to be during childbirth. Hypnobabies® is well-known for helping women to create much shorter, easier and more comfortable labors, making childbirth the joyful experience it was meant to be. Expectant mothers use our Hypnobabies ® Workbook, CDs and hypnosis scripts to train their inner mind that contractions in labor will be felt only as pressure, tightening, pushing, pulling and normal baby movement sensations. Women are fully in tune with their babies during the birthing process, and as aware of everything around them as they’d like to be, easily able to communicate with their support team, and completely in charge of their own birth experience.
